So today is the first day of fall, which is very welcome. Although I must say, it doesn’t feel much like fall as it’s been in the 80’s the past few days. As much as I love summer, I love the cooler mornings and evenings, the freshness in the air, being able to get out a light jumper or sweatshirt and feel cozy. It’s a nice break from the record heat we’ve had here in San Diego this summer – heat that just seems to keep coming and coming. I’m so ready for fall and some cooler temperatures.
Fall also means that we have some changes coming up. Valentina will start preschool in October after her 2nd birthday. We are starting her three half days a week, and while age two in some ways seems early to start, we feel she’s ready. She’s very social and loves to be out and about with people, and as much as I love our nanny, it means she has a lot of time one-on-one and less time with children her age as she would if she was in day care.
Fall for me also means lots of travel for medical conferences. We’ve already been to Salt Lake City last week for doTerra convention, then next month is the annual Lyme conference in Fort Lauderdale, then in November it’s the naturopathic medical association in Arizona. I’m excited to go to Scottsdale as I’ve heard such good things about it, and the hotel we’re staying at has a pool with a beach on one side, and a water slide that I can see my husband and daughter spending the entire day on! Dave and Valentina travel with me – we’ve decided that neither of us would want to be apart from Valentina for several days at a time, so we travel together as a family. It can be hard on Dave as he has to miss work, but it keeps our family together, and gives him quality time with Valentina while I’m off doing conference stuff.
I look forward to the end of the year to be able to go home to Australia for the holidays, which is a first in many years. Christmas/ New Year are not necessarily my favorite times to travel simply based on the crowds and the cost of fares, but it will be nice to be there this time. Maybe we’ll go once every five years. Who knows.
As summer winds down and the days get shorter, we spend more time indoors again. We rediscover the playroom that had been a bit neglected while we were spending so much time outside. We read books and do puzzles. We see what cute cardigans I bought for Valentina months ago when cool weather seemed unlikely!!
I’m excited for the fall, for the new season, and for all the holidays and festivities that it brings!! I’m excited for different clothes, being able to wear jackets, for not having to almost break my car cranking up the a/c as high as it will go! Bye bye summer, see you next year.
