The Ordinary Skin Care

I came across a skin care line recently that I want to tell you about. It’s called The Ordinary skin care, but to me it’s not ordinary at all. It’s important that we care for our skin – not just for vanity and the fountain of youth. Or skin is an organ after all, our largest organ in fact, and in the spirit of true, holistic health, it needs our love too.

Nutraceutical ingredients in skin care are not new – ingredients such as retinols/retinoids, vitamin C esters, hyaluronic acid, resveratrol, azelaic acid, niacinamide, and others. Typically, though, these types of products are expensive. One line I’ve always liked is Perricone skin care – I used to use it and I definitely noticed improvement in my skin. But whew, at $80-100 (or more) per product, that gets outrageously pricy. Now, with The Ordinary skin care line, these wonderful ingredients are available at a fraction of that cost – more like $8-$10 per tube.

The whole philosophy of The Ordinary is to offer effectively, science-based products are a realistic price. It goes against the grain of the majority of the beauty industry, with it’s glossy packaging and over-inflated, marketing-drive pricing strategies. The parent company, Deciem, is based in Canada. You ring them up and get to speak to a person, each and every time. They are helpful. Their website is comprehensive and yet clear. And their products are amazing.

They do have some higher-end lines too, including one called NIOD (stands for non-invasive options in dermal science), which I’m also loving. I’m in day 3 of a 5-day intensive of a flavanone mud, and I can honestly say my skin looks clearer and brighter already. I have a whole regimen put together, based on a combination of The Ordinary and NIOD products – but even with The Ordinary alone, one could get a comprehensive, nutraceutical-based skin regimen for less than $50. All Deciem products, across all brands including The Ordinary, are free of parabens, sulphates, mineral oil, methylchloroisothiazolinone, methylisothiazolinone, animal oils, benzalkonium chloride, coal tar dyes, formaldehyde, mercury, and oxybenzone. None are tested on animals, and interestingly, they will not sell in countries that require animal testing, such as mainland China.

I’ve been so happy with it so far that I wanted to let you know. I had never even heard of The Ordinary til some mama friends of mine recommended it. Check them out at www.deciem.com. There are a lot of different products, I was a little overwhelmed at first, but if you email their customer service, or give them a call, they’ll set you out in the right direction for your skin and your needs. There’s also a great Facebook group called Deciem Enthusiasts full of really friendly, helpful users of Deciem products – that’s been a great resource too.

I love that Deciem is offering great products as a sensible price, that contain all the ingredients that I know are so beneficial to our skin. The honesty and integrity of what they are creating is rare and refreshing. I do know they’ve gained a lot of popularity quickly, so some of the products pop up out of stock here and there, but other than that, I can highly recommend them.
